Adventure in Arizona

I’ve never been one for deserts—they tend to be, uh, not oceans. Sure, they have sand, but where are the octopuses? However, I’ve changed my mind since coming to Tucson with Stephan for the wedding of a good friend. Here’s a snapshot of our Adventure in Arizona, what we’ve been up to in the sometimes hot, sometimes freezing cold, always beautiful Southwest.

Up close with spines of prickly pair cactus, Tucson Arizona
You don’t want to mess with a prickly pear cactus, no matter how much they appear to want a high-five.

Great horned owl, Tucson Arizona
Would love to say I saw this Great Horned Owl in the wild (and during the day, even more unusual), but this was taken at the excellent Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.
groundhog standoff, Tucson Arizona
I really wanted to witness a stand-off, wild west-style, and was just delighted when these groundhogs* obliged. Their tiny pistols were just adorable.
*Whoops, these are prairie dogs…my bad.
mountain lion found. Tucson Arizona
Uh, thanks, yellow sign, but I think I know where the mountain lion is. At the Arizona-Senora Desert Museum outside Tucson.
Prairie falcon, Tucson Arizona
Hey there, Prairie Falcon, I too like to air out my arm-pits (wing-pits?) when it’s hot outside. At the Arizona-Senora Desert Museum.
won't you share your apple? Tucson Arizona
